The interior painting of a house is not a job that costs a lot, but it is still a phase of the decoration that can last up to 10 years depending on the quality of the paint and above all on the technique used to apply it (of which there are several). This means that hiring experts in the painting sector is always a good investment in interior design.
How can I make interior paint last longer?
We want to share with you some of our interior painting tips.
Let’s start with the above mentioned durability, about 10 years. This would be if there are no children in the house or pets that could damage the paint. But in almost every house there are always times when this is difficult to avoid.
In these cases, a coat of paint is usually applied from time to time. As well as in a room that receives a lot of direct sunlight, it is also possible that it is necessary to beep more frequently.
Here is a list of rooms that are usually painted every five to seven years:
- Living rooms
- Dining room
- Adult bedrooms
Here is another list for rooms that are painted more often, every 3 to 4 years:
- Kitchen
- Laundry room
- Mouldings and skirting boards
And here is the list of rooms that do get painted every two or three years:
- Hallways
- Children’s bedrooms
- Living rooms with fireplaces
What can last the longest? The ceilings, indeed. Here the paint job can last for 10 years or even longer in some rooms.

Choose a high quality interior paint
Choosing an overly cheap paint is always going to be more expensive in the end. You’ll notice that you’re saving money at first, but the paint wears out and won’t last as long. Which means you’ll have to repaint sooner.
Look for higher quality paints with a high level of acrylic resin. The resin makes the paint more washable and durable. You’ll get glossier coats in fewer coats and the paint wears much less.
Professionally painted walls
The technique you implement for the job is essential. Doing the job right, including preparation, priming and painting two to three coats, will make the finishes noticeably more professional and better looking.
Have ongoing maintenance
Cleaning paint regularly is not something that many people do, but it is important, especially in high traffic areas. This can make the paint last longer.
Attention should be paid to high-touch areas, such as switch areas, places that are at children’s height, and spaces near the bathtub and kitchen surfaces.
When dusting the house, it never hurts to wipe down the wall with a duster or microfibre cloth.
Occasionally, flaws may appear, so regular touch-ups will make the walls look fresher.
Tip: when the painter comes to do the painting work, if there is any paint left over, save it so that when a small accident happens, you can give it a quick and easy touch up.
And if the time has come to repaint your house, remember that in Bartolomé Bas we have been in this sector for years and we have great professionals.
